Art Workshops, Talks and Tutoring

Art Workshops

 

Weekly art classes for both adults and children will be available. Classes will be organised on a termly basis and will normally consist of 10 to 12 lessons.

Children’s classes will provide instruction of a wide range of art techniques including drawing and painting, illustration, collage/mixed media, printmaking, sculpture. The classes will normally be split into two age groups, 6-9 and 10-14. Douglas will also be offering the opportunity for more specialist one-day workshops for children during school holidays.

Adult art classes will provide tuition in a range of art techniques including drawing and painting, composition, collage and printmaking, 3-D modelling and sculpture, and will also offer the opportunities for more specialist one-day workshops, such as creating a journey from sketchbooks and drawings to painted canvas, with participants making their own sketchbooks, canvases and art materials.  

 

 

Private Tuition

 

One to one lessons are available and will cover subjects in consultation with the student. Additional tutoring and portfolio preparation lessons are available for GCSE and A Level students.

Private lessons are normally one to two hours weekly.

 

Schools Workshops

 

One- and two-day workshops available for schools, at KS1 and KS2, and will be themed in consultation with the participating school. Drawing and painting, word and image illustration, sculpture, environmental art and mural painting will be some of the workshops available to book.

Talks/Lectures

Douglas is available for talks and lectures to schools, colleges and arts societies. Previous talks and lectures have been given at a wide range of events and venues including The National Library of Scotland, Edinburgh; Scottish Poetry Library; Brasenose College, Oxford University; Dundee University; Waterstones Bookshops; Uist Book Festival; Skye Book Festival; WordPlay Book Festival, Scottish Writers Centre, Glasgow; The Poetry School, London; and Solent Art Society.
